Our History

TransFarmations was founded by R. Carter Scott, a Northeastern University graduate with an industrial engineering degree. Carter has been a leader in the Massachusetts zero energy home building movement, and his projects have appeared in the Solar Today and Fine Homebuilding magazines and on the Discovery Channel. He was President of Transformations Inc, a sustainable development and building company in Townsend, MA from 1986 through 2017.

Transformations, Inc. specialized in developing and building sustainable Zero Energy Communities, building out residential Zero Energy projects for other developers, building Zero Energy Custom Homes, and installing Solar Electric Systems for existing homes and businesses. The company  served over a thousand customers since its start in the contracting field.

Carter and his team are beginning work on two different models of incorporating local food into communities in southern New Hampshire: a permaculture-inspired, 6-lot development; and a net positive energy Agrihood with diversified, carbon-positive farming and housing.
